Privacy Policy
Last revised: October 2026 • Effective immediately
The Short Version: WordClover is built for students, teachers, and puzzle enthusiasts. We do not require accounts, we do not track you with advertising cookies, and we do not store your custom puzzles on our servers.
1. Information We Do Not Collect
We do not require user accounts, passwords, email addresses, names, or payment details. You can play every puzzle, create custom word searches, and download printable PDFs entirely anonymously.
2. Local Storage and Client-Side State
To allow you to resume in-progress puzzles if you accidentally close your tab or navigate away, WordClover stores your progress (timer and found words) in your browser’s local storage (localStorage).
This data remains exclusively on your device. It is never transmitted across the network to our servers or any third parties. You can clear this data at any time via your browser settings or by clicking "Reset" on the puzzle toolbar.
3. Custom Puzzles and URL Fragments
When you design a puzzle using our Puzzle Maker, the puzzle words and configuration are compressed into a URL hash fragment (the portion after the #d=... in the address bar).
According to Internet standards (RFC 3986), URL fragments are processed strictly client-side by your web browser and are never sent to our web servers. Custom puzzles exist solely in the link you share.
4. Cookieless Privacy-Preserving Analytics
We use Plausible Analytics, a cookieless, privacy-preserving analytics service, to collect aggregate operational metrics (such as how many puzzles are started or completed) so we can maintain reliability and balance puzzle difficulty. Plausible does not use cookies, collect personal identifiers, or build advertising profiles. We do not use advertising identifiers, third-party tracking pixels, or persistent tracking cookies.
5. Children’s Privacy (COPPA & FERPA Compliance)
Because we do not collect personal identifying information, WordClover is fully safe for classroom and K-12 school use in compliance with COPPA and FERPA guidelines.
6. Contact Us
If you have questions regarding this Privacy Policy or your data, you can reach out via our contact & reporting page.
